China Facts: The rationale behind the establishment of AIIB



The rationale for creating AIIB; the big problem for China is that it has struggled to gain enough influence in the US-sponsored institutions to serve its full purposes. China's voting rights within IBRD is just 5%, in IMF even more paltry 3.8%, the IMF agreed to raise this to 6% in 2010 but its implementation was held up by Republicans in the US Congress. Finally in the ADB China pushed for greater representation on the ADB Board and to increase its shareholdings of 5%, but it was blocked by the US and Japan*)
