China Facts: from incremental improvements to basic research

China has only recently started investing in basic research, so it has a long way to go where invention is concerned (defined as revolutionising a field). However, China is a powerhouse when it comes to innovation defined as incremental improvements to a product or its manufacturing process. Innovation in China is an open and collaborative process involving owners, researchers and suppliers and Chinese innovation tend to target the largest possible audience. Yet, in the West, Chinese innovation is not necessarily visible, as they are not always marketed as such*)
