China facts: 17.2 million babies born into a new generation of higher earnings

17.2 million babies were born in China last year - the population of the Netherlands - expanding the already-significant demand for child and family related products and services. Although it sounds like a lot China’s fertility rate of 1.24% is even lower than in Japan’s 1.46%. A child born in China today will have parents earning 130% more than those born a decade ago. Their parents will be four and a half times more likely to have travelled beyond Greater China. The millions of new parents are more educated, open minded and worldly than any generation before them, and as a result are more inclined to Western products and lifestyles.
