China Facts: China's cross-border e-commerce at $220bn in 2017

67% of China's online shoppers had a cross-border purchasing experience last year, a figure that was up sharply from 34% from the year before. On average, China’s cross-border buyers ordered more than once per month. 53% of cross-border consumers spent more than ¥10,000 ($1,468) and 15% of them spent over ¥20,000 ($2,936) over the past 12 months. “Authenticity with guaranteed quality” was the top factor that determined consumers’ choice of the e-commerce platform, Alipay was the main payment method, and 'convenience and speed' and 'safety' were the key payment considerations. Cosmetics remains the top category led by females, but males are catching up with 77% buying them online.*)
